In accordance with article 33 of the Belgian Code of Medical Ethics and with the law of 22 August 2002 on patient rights, the Brussels-Schuman Medical Center discloses its fees before any procedure.

Fees applicable as of 1 January 2026, reviewed each year on 1 January. The amount applicable to your situation is confirmed in a written personal quotation, handed to you at the end of the pre-operative assessment, before any decision is made.

The doctors of the centre are not conventioned: they do not apply the fees set by the medico-mutualist agreement. The amounts shown on this page are the total amounts payable by the patient. No file charge and no administrative supplement is added.

What each amount covers

Transepithelial PRK at the Brussels-Schuman Medical Center is charged 1,500 euros per eye in 2026. The procedure takes place in the operating theatre of the Alliance Medical Center, in Braine-l'Alleud. This amount covers the surgeon's fees, the use of the operating theatre and the sterile consumables. Transepithelial PRK removes the epithelium and reshapes the cornea in a single laser step, with no blade and no instrument touching the eye. It is often preferred for thin corneas and for moderate corrections.

Femto-LASIK at the Brussels-Schuman Medical Center is charged 2,000 euros per eye in 2026, that is 4,000 euros for both eyes. It is performed in the same operating theatre, at the Alliance Medical Center. The corneal flap is created with a femtosecond laser, then the correction is applied with the excimer laser. Visual recovery is faster than after transepithelial PRK, which explains the difference in fee between the two techniques.

The phakic ICL implant of the Brussels-Schuman Medical Center is charged 3,000 euros per eye in 2026, that is 6,000 euros for both eyes. The implant is placed in the operating theatre of Delta Hospital (CHIREC), in Brussels. This amount covers the implant itself, which accounts for most of the difference with the laser techniques. The ICL is intended for eyes where laser treatment is not the best option, in particular in cases of high myopia or of a cornea that is too thin.

The reference price is the price per eye: a correction does not always involve both eyes.

What is covered, what is not

Items covered and not covered by the surgical fee
Covered by the surgical feeInvoiced separately
Surgeon's feesPre-operative assessment (90 EUR)
Use of the operating theatre and technical platformFollow-up consultations (63 EUR each)
Sterile consumables and protective equipmentEye drops and post-operative treatment
Ablation profile selected, whichever it isAny retreatment

The surgical fee covers the procedure itself, from the operating theatre to the consumables. The procedures surrounding it are invoiced separately, because they are ophthalmology consultations rather than part of the surgical act. Any retreatment is assessed case by case; its cost is communicated to you before any decision, as for the initial procedure.

Pre-operative assessment

The assessment is payable whatever its conclusion: its very purpose is to say whether surgery is indicated.

The complete pre-operative assessment is charged 90 euros in 2026. It includes corneal topography and pachymetry, aberrometry, pupil diameter measurement, refraction under cycloplegia, fundus examination after dilation and the eligibility discussion with the surgeon. Allow about one hour on site.

This assessment is payable whatever its conclusion, including when it leads to no surgery being proposed. It includes procedures listed in the INAMI nomenclature, certified according to the rules applicable to non-conventioned doctors, and examinations specific to refractive surgery which are not listed there: those are encoded on the same care certificate as pseudo-codes, and are not covered by the compulsory health insurance.

The pre-operative assessment is not a routine consultation. Fees for a general ophthalmology consultation are detailed on the payment and fees page.

Post-operative follow-up

Post-operative follow-up consultations are not covered by the surgical fee. They are ophthalmology consultations, certified as such, and charged 63 euros each in 2026. Three check-ups are usually needed during the first year, that is 189 euros.

This separate invoicing is not a commercial choice. It allows these consultations to appear on your care certificate, which would not be possible if they were absorbed into a surgical fee outside the nomenclature.

Reimbursement and cover

Refractive surgery, whether transepithelial PRK, Femto-LASIK or a phakic ICL implant, is not listed in the INAMI nomenclature. Surgical fees are not reimbursed by the compulsory health insurance and remain entirely at your expense.

The ophthalmology consultation and the examinations listed in the nomenclature are certified according to the rules applicable to any patient in order with their health insurance fund. Some funds also grant a flat-rate allowance under their complementary insurance. Its amount and its conditions vary from one fund to another and from one year to the next: please check with yours before the procedure.

Surgical fees are not reimbursed by the compulsory health insurance.

Treatment profile and fee

The ablation profile is chosen by the surgeon from the measurements taken during the assessment. The wavefront-optimized profile is used systematically. When the analysis of the assessment indicates it, the treatment is customised, either by a topography-guided profile, computed from the detailed map of your corneal surface, or by a wavefront-guided profile, computed from the aberrations specific to your eye.

The fee is the same whichever profile is selected. That choice is a medical indication and gives rise to no separate charge. The detail of ablation profiles and what they change is covered in a dedicated article.

Choice of technique and quotation

The technique selected depends on objective criteria observed during the assessment: corneal thickness and regularity, magnitude of the refractive error, tear film quality, ocular history. The techniques that can be considered in your case, their respective advantages and drawbacks and their cost are set out during the pre-operative consultation.

They are set out in a written personal quotation handed to you before any decision is made. The eligibility simulator gives a first indication in five questions, without replacing this assessment.

Surgical fees are settled by bank transfer only, before the procedure. The secretariat gives you the account details and the exact amount together with the date of surgery. Nothing is payable on the day of the procedure. This rule applies to all three techniques, including the phakic ICL implant, even though it is placed at Delta Hospital.

Cataract surgery follows a different rule: it is invoiced by the Delta Hospital (CHIREC) after the procedure.

And for cataract surgery

Cataract surgery falls under a different regime. It is listed in the INAMI nomenclature and is therefore covered by the compulsory health insurance, unlike refractive surgery.

The procedure takes place at Delta Hospital (CHIREC), where the fee supplements applied are 160%. Multifocal intraocular lenses are not listed in the nomenclature and are not reimbursed by the compulsory health insurance, but several complementary insurance policies cover all or part of them. The amount that concerns you depends on your situation and on the implant selected.

For a personal estimate, please contact the hospital administrative department on 02/434.40.41. The invoice reaches you about fifteen days to one month after the operation.

Frequently asked questions about fees

How much does laser eye surgery cost in Brussels?
At the Brussels-Schuman Medical Center, transepithelial PRK is charged 1,500 euros per eye in 2026, that is 3,000 euros for both eyes. Femto-LASIK is charged 2,000 euros per eye, that is 4,000 euros for both eyes. The phakic ICL implant is charged 3,000 euros per eye, that is 6,000 euros for both eyes.
Is the price quoted per eye or for both eyes?
Both amounts are shown side by side for each technique. The reference price is the price per eye, because a correction does not always involve both eyes. The amount for both eyes is exactly twice the price per eye.
What exactly does the fee cover?
The surgical fee covers the surgeon’s fees, the use of the operating theatre and technical platform, sterile consumables and the ablation profile selected, whichever it is. It does not cover the pre-operative assessment, the post-operative eye drops or the follow-up consultations.
Are there any costs after the procedure?
Yes. Post-operative follow-up consultations are charged 63 euros each in 2026. Three check-ups are usually needed during the first year, that is 189 euros. The eye drops prescribed after the procedure also remain at your expense.
Does a customised treatment cost more?
No. The fee is the same whichever ablation profile is selected. The profile is chosen by the surgeon from the measurements taken during the pre-operative assessment, and that choice is a medical indication, not an option selected by the patient.
Is refractive surgery reimbursed by the health insurance fund?
Refractive surgery is not listed in the INAMI nomenclature. Surgical fees are not reimbursed by the compulsory health insurance and remain entirely at your expense. Some health insurance funds grant an allowance under their complementary insurance; the amount and conditions vary, so please check with yours.
Is the pre-operative assessment payable if I turn out not to be eligible?
The pre-operative assessment is a medical procedure in its own right, charged 90 euros in 2026. It is payable whatever its conclusion, including when it leads to no surgery being proposed. That is precisely its purpose: to determine whether surgery is indicated in your case.
How much does an ICL implant cost?
The phakic ICL implant is charged 3,000 euros per eye in 2026, that is 6,000 euros for both eyes. This amount covers the implant itself, the surgical fees and the use of the operating theatre.
When and how should the procedure be paid for?
Surgical fees are settled by bank transfer only, before the procedure, whichever the technique and wherever the procedure takes place. The secretariat gives you the account details and the exact amount together with the date of surgery. Cataract surgery follows a different rule: it is invoiced by the Delta Hospital (CHIREC) after the procedure.
